Balancing the light in different situations

Understanding how to balance light is vital to understanding how to control it. In this first example with the water spray, a fast shutter speed is vital. The light catches the drops of water when they are against a black background. In order to freeze the water your shutter must be very fast, which in turn means there must be an abundance of light! This post talks more about balancing indoor and outdoor light! This first image was taken outside in the daylight with the addition of continuous lights. The abundant amount of light made it possible for me to light up the droplets and freeze them in the air! The smoke bombs were done in a similar way. We needed a lot of light and a fast continuous shutter to capture the fast moving smoke.
